Accessibility Statement for st3am.berlin

Purpose of the Website

st3am.berlin provides information about the ST3AM Working Space operated by WISTA Management GmbH in Berlin-Adlershof. Companies can lease offices, project rooms and makerspace areas for business use. No consumer products or services are sold on the site.

Public-Sector Status & Legal Framework

WISTA Management GmbH is a wholly owned company of the Federal State of Berlin. It therefore qualifies as a public sector body under:

  • Directive (EU) 2016/2102 on the accessibility of websites and mobile applications of public sector bodies

  • the Berlin Act on Accessible Information and Communication Technology (BIKTG Bln)

  • the German Ordinance on Accessible Information Technology (BITV 2.0)

The technical standard applied is WCAG 2.1, conformance level AA (as referenced in EN 301 549).

Current Accessibility Status (Self-assessment – 23 June 2025)

The website is partially accessible.

Strengths

  • Correct heading hierarchy (one H1 per page, logical order)

  • Keyboard-operable main navigation

  • Responsive layout

  • Optional OneTap Accessibility widget (font sizing, colour modes)

Known barriers

  1. Missing lang attribute in the root HTML tag (language detection by screen readers unreliable)

  2. No skip-to-content link; focus outline is hardly visible

  3. Grey text (breadcrumbs, footer links) below the WCAG contrast ratio of 4.5 : 1

  4. Hero video on the home page without captions or audio description

  5. Some images (incl. logo) have missing or non-descriptive alt text

Road-map for Improvement

ActionTarget date
Add dynamic lang attribute, skip link and clear focus outline30 Sep 2025
Complete alt-text audit and adjust text contrast31 Dec 2025
Provide captions for all videos30 Jun 2026

Goal: Full WCAG 2.1 AA compliance by 30 June 2026.

Disproportionate Burden (Section 4(3) BIKTG Bln)

Area affected: Easy-to-read (plain-language) texts

  • Current state: No pages are currently available in plain language (German “Leichte Sprache”).

  • Reason: Much of the content is aimed at a professional audience and necessarily contains specialist terminology. Translating the entire corpus into plain language would impose disproportionate financial and staffing demands.

  • Measure: By 31 December 2025 we will publish plain-language versions of

    • the company description,

    • an overview of main projects, and

    • the primary navigation elements.
Other pages will not be translated.

Evaluation Methods

Automated testing with axe DevTools, WAVE and the OneTap live checker, plus manual keyboard and screen-reader (NVDA, VoiceOver) reviews. A full self-assessment is performed every June.
